SONOS Partners with Amazon to Bring Integrated Alexa Functionality
After 10 years of partnering with tech companies like Apple, and Google, Sonos has finally announced a new partnership with Amazon. Contrary to popular belief, SONOS considers Amazon more of a friend than enemy. “It’s not a spirit of competition,” said John Smith, VP of Marketing at SONOS. “It’s really a spirit of partnership. And the reason for that is that in the end, our products and our businesses are complementary.“ If you are Amazon, SONOS has 7 million incredibly valuable households that they would be of interest to reach, and for us, we absolutely love the power of the voice assistants that they are building. Because these things are not in conflict, we can support each other," said Smith. SONOS will be using voice assistants to enhance the “listening experience” on its speakers. Your SONOS speakers will soon be able to work with Alexa and you will be able to request songs and change the audio using just your voice. The commands include things like “Alexa, play me music,” “Alexa, skip,” and “Alexa, what’s playing.” This deep integration means that you don’t have to “tell” the Sonos system anything – just Alexa. The Amazon integration is coming to our SONOS users this April.
