Software Updates Are Ending For Our Oldest Products
In the spirit of the season, we are undergoing some spring cleaning here at SONOS and looking forward to the future. At the birth of our company 20 years back, the technology that our brand centers around today did not even exist. The majority of the ways that we listened to music were greatly limited. In order to invent the concept of multi-room music and smart wireless speakers, we had to combine high-quality audio and computing technologies. Since the launch of our first products, technology has progressed at a dramatic rate; from the addition streaming services and voice assistants to wireless networking and Bluetooth capabilities. Through all of this transformation, we have consistently continued to deliver new features via periodic software updates. We take deep pride in making products built to last, especially despite the fast-evolving technology standards in society today. In fact, 92% of all of our products that we have ever shipped are still in use today. However, we have now reached a point where some of our oldest products have been completely pushed to their limits, in terms of memory and processing ability. Starting this May, our age-old Zone, Connect, Play, and Bridge products will no longer support software updates or any of our new features. Without new software updates, access to services and overall functionality of your sound system will eventually be disrupted, particularly as partners evolve their technology. To make up for the obsoletion of these products, we will be launching a trade-in program and recycling initiative in the next few weeks. For any questions or concerns regarding these changes, please feel free to reach out to us at 1 (800) 680-2345.
